If you are interested in Coaching a Summer Team, please email the appropriate League Commissioner and come to the Coach Look at 5:30PM, Friday, April 13th .
The number of Summer Teams will depend on the number of players interested and number of volunteer coaches. If a player is not placed on a Summer Team, the registration fee will be fully refunded. The summer registration fee covers a Summer Team uniform, City of Southlake fees, Insurance, miscellaneous equipment and registration into the Pony Invitational and District Tournaments. There are additional expenses for playing local tournament, team events, additional jerseys and other costs. Teams typically cover these additional expenses through parent assessments, sponsorships and/or fund raising activities.
Tournament baseball is much more competitive than SBA League play. Depending on the tournament, the games are usually played under either USSSA rules or Pony Rules. At the same time, most who participate in summer baseball find it rewarding and a lot of fun both for the players and their families. “Players learn baseball in the summer!”
It is expected that players who commit to a Summer Team be available for both practices and tournaments during the Summer Season. Please consider that tournaments do not allow substitute players and the failure of a player to be available can lead to team forfeiture of games. The summer tournament season starts at the end of the SBA Spring Season and usually goes through early July.
The SBA strongly suggests that family vacations not be planned until at least mid-July if playing on a Summer Team.
Most Summer Teams play tournaments on the weekends (Friday – Sunday) and practice two to three times a week. Most tournament games are in the DFW area, however, we hope that some teams qualify to play in out-of-town events such as the Pony World Series.
If you have questions about Summer Baseball, please discuss with your current head coach. You can also email the appropriate League Commissioner or John Hartman at johartma@cisco.com, the Summer League Commisioner.
